Return to Nazareth

Matt 2:23 And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets [1], He shall be called a Nazarene. Luke 2:39 [2] And when they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city Nazareth.

Luke 2:40 And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him.

[1]Isaiah 11:1 And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots. In the original, the term branch is rendered as netzer. A misreading of this may be the origin of the belief that Jesus was to be a "Nazarene" (Interpreter's One-Volume Commentary, p. 612).

[2]This passage cannot be reconciled with the escape into Egypt.
