Verses 37 and 38 are the transition to the denouncement of the Pharisees from the parable of the lighted candle (Luke 11:33-36). This transition cannot be reconciled either with the end of the candle parable in Matthew and Mark (which has Jesus leaving on a ship) or the beginning of the denouncement in Matthew (in which Jesus is addressing a crowd).
