The value of life

Mark 8:34 And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. Matt 16:24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. Luke 9:23 And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.
Mark 8:35 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it. Matt 16:25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. Luke 9:24 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.
Mark 8:36 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?37 Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? Matt 16:26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? Luke 9:25 For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?
Mark 8:38 Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels. Matt 16:27 For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works. Luke 9:26 For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father's, and of the holy angels.
Mark 9:1 And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power [1]. Matt 16:28 Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom. Luke 9:27 But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God.

[1]The belief that the second coming was at hand is expressed in many places in the new testimen -- 1 Thesslonians 4:16-17, for example. It is explained away in other places, such as John 11:25 and 2 Peter 3:4-10 (Interpreter's One-Volume Commentary, p. 659).
