Matt 17:13 Then the disciples understood that he spake unto them of John the Baptist .
By "they" Luke must mean Moses and Elias, but they also disappear in Luke 9:36.
Malachi 4:5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord.
There is nothing in the old testament concerning what is to happen to Elias after his return.
This contradicts John 1:21 in which John claims that he is not Elias.
